why did michael jackson get plastic surgeries?

i think if he didn’t change the color of his skin and change his face to look like a white girl, he would look 10times better. but he looks like a complete idiot after he did those things. what was he hoping to accomplish by doing it??? i thought about it day and night and still cant find a reason.

the skin color thing makes some sense but the plastic surgeries make none.

Clearly he feels like he missed out on his own childhood, and by so many of his behaviors is trying to re-capture something he missed out on. I think that answers the Neverland question, the idolizing of what he perceived as the purity and carefreeness of childhood, trying to regress to something he craves in his soul (but seems weird to the rest of us who think growing up is normal).

And I think he internalized and believed the criticism and demanding perfectionism of his father. An internal voice that says he’ll never be quite good enough will override what he sees in the mirror, and drown out anything anyone else says. And having that much money, and being surrounded by people who do what you tell them to do, removes checks on weird behavior that most of us would hear from our friends and families.

Once you move a little in one direction, and just keep taking small steps in that direction, you can get really out there without ever realizing it. Especially if you have removed yourself from all the people in your life who will tell you what you don’t want to hear, and surrounded yourself with people you pay to be your yes-men.

Maybe he didn’t view himself as handsome. I know his dad called him names as a child and picked on his nose a lot, I guess that can make you hate yourself when your own father tells you how you look isn’t good enough.

apparently he was made fun of for his nose, by his dad and some cousins. he also used the excuse that it "made him breathe better so he could sing better." i’m sure there are other reasons as well.

The thing is, he didn’t do as many as it looks like he did.
Even so, he regrets it and guess what? It doesn’t matter.
His broken childhood is 99% of all the actions that are viewed at "wrong" even though they aren’t//

He changed his looks because his father made nasty comments about him when he was a child – and they stuck with him. He wasn’t happy with the way he looked so he got the surgeries to change it.

I don’t see any problem with it. If its what he wanted, then good for him.<3
And yeah, he was still hot. :P

he broke his nose and he had to get a surgery to get it fixed. that surgery left him with breathing problems that would affect his career so he had to get another one. but i think the child abuse he had as a child did participate in the later ones.

I read that he was terrified he would look like his abusive father, so wanted to be totally different to him. Another reason was that he wanted to look like Diana Ross/ Who knows really?

That’s what people don’t understand, he was so self conscious and had low self esteem from all that emotional abuse from his father. He didn’t like his appearance obviously. He had a giant heart that wouldn’t sum up to any other celebrity. Please let him rest in peace, people just never understood him. If you read about his life, then you’ll understand why he acted the way he did.

Oprah: OK, then let’s go to the thing that is most discussed about you, that is, the color of your skin…is most obviously different than when you were younger, and so I think it has caused a great deal of speculation and controversy as to what you have done or are doing, are you bleaching your skin, and is your skin getting lighter because you don’t like being black?
Michael: Number one, as far as I know of there is no such thing as skin bleaching. I have never seen it, I don’t know what it is.
Oprah: Well they used to have those products, I remember growing up always hearing "always use bleach and glow", but you have to have about 300,000 gallons.
Michael: OK, but number one, this is the situation. I have a skin disorder that destroys the pigmentation of my skin, it’s something that I cannot help, OK? But when people make up stories that I don’t want to be what I am it hurts me.
    Oprah: So it is…
Michael: It’s a problem for me that I can’t control…but what about all the millions of people who sit out in the sun, to become darker, to become other than what they are. No one says nothing about that.
Oprah: So when did this start? When did your…when did the color of your skin start to change?
Michael: Oh boy, I don’t….sometime after Thriller, around Off The Wall, Thriller, sometime around then.
Oprah: But what did you think?
Michael: It’s in my family, my father said it’s on his side. I can’t control it, I don’t understand. I mean it makes me very sad. I don’t want to go into my medical history because that is private, but that’s the situation here.
Oprah: So OK, I just want to get this straight, you are not taking anything to change the color of your skin?
Michael: Oh God no, we tried to control it and using make-up evens it out because it makes blotches on my skin. I have to even out my skin. But you know what’s funny, why is that so important? That’s not important to me. I’m a great fan of art. I love Michaelangelo, if I had a chance to talk to him or read about him I would want to know what inspired him to become who he is, the anatomy of his craftsmanship, not about who he went out with last night….what’s wrong with….I mean that’s what is important to me.

As a child he was teased about his nose which bother him a lot. Also he was abused and emotionally tortured by his father. He was so afraid of his dad he said he used to vomit out of fear when his father was around.

He knew he resembled his father and he probably was reminded of all that abuse when he looked in the mirror.

That combined with other psycological issues from his childhood seemed to have prompted him to want to change the features he thought were most similar to his dad’s.
