Do you think in some cases cosmetic surgery can be a cure for low self esteem?
For instance for someone who was born with a deformity, or a burn victim. Realistically these people are most likely going to feel self conscious about their abnormal appearances, so if they could correct them that might possibly restore their self esteem.
In my case, I think it would restore my self esteem. Even though I don’t have a deformity I don’t like how I look but I do like the person I am inside. And yes it is enough for me to love myself inside and I get by on that just fine. But when I look at photos of myself I cringe at my appearance, at the same time I reassure myself that looks are not that important. But I think that it would be nice if I could just get my nose ‘fixed’, then both parts of the self esteem would be balanced the physical and the mental.
I think you should start by removing the cat ears and whiskers before you move onto the nose.

Usually it won’t fix the problem. "if only my nose was perfect, I’d be happy…"
You’ll do your boobs next and you end up like Michael Jackson. Seriously. Work from the inside. You’re fine.

No, of course not
that would be like saying being a stripper will raise your self esteem

i guess it could work, but low self-esteem wouldn’t magically be fixed by just changing your appearance. it’s about learning to love yourself in a way that’s YOU.

YES. Definately. As long as people don’t go overboard (Joan Rivers, MJ,) then it can definately be a confidence booster.

yes. if you have unresolvable issues about parts of your body, get them changed. i have to admit that a skinny girl with D implants looks kind of weird.

Unless you have a deformity or were hideously burnt, having plastic surgery won’t truly make you "happy."

I think it depends because maybe there is nothing wrong with your nose, it could all be perception. For instance, people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder think they are hideous and no amount of plastic surgery will fix it. Their perception of their appearance is screwed up, nothing will change it.
Best to get an outside opinion from a professional like a therapist first.

Nose jobs can ruin lives. Look at Jennifer Grey’s acting career. She was never the same after she got her shnoz shortened.

I dont think it’s a "CURE" it all starts inside and no matter how much plastic surgery you get you will never be content with your body until you accept it….but dont take this as me telling you how to get it it took me a 3 year journey to become content with my body as i now am but i am pro-plastic surgery if you do it for the right reasons. So if it’s something that will make you feel better and you feel like it will improve your appearance than do it for sure but make sure thats the exact reason your doing it…to please you.

Yes, Ashlee Simpson said when she had her nose done she had more confidence.

yeah.. that’s the only time i would condone people getting plastic surgery, if their appearance has been distorted to such an extent, but just for vanity pleasures, i dont agree on..

Self esteem is not real it’s like love just a feeling that one might think is there, but isn’t. So yes it can cure it because you might not know what truly makes you feel good, but if you believe hard enough that this will then it will, that’s just how it is. I mean everyone has the right to chance the way they look, it might not be your public face, but it can be your true face if you do your most special things in it like making friends or working and such, like me my natural hair is ugly, but when I comb it it looks much better thus I call it my true identity hair.

Yes I think cosmetic surgery can do wonders for a low self esteem. But you have to keep in mind what comes along with it. such as the bills can get up to 70-80k that takes a long time to pay off buy the time you have it paid off your face lift, or what not is gone. Secondly are are really willing to let someone take a knife to your face, ex.. Joan Rivers, Michael Jackson. they have plenty of money and can afford the very best in doctors but, look at the both of them, both of their faces were terribly messed up from the amount of surgery they received. Its a very touchy situation, you could spend 30k and come out happier then you have ever been in your life, or you could spend 40k and wish to god you could go back in time. THink before you act and always get all the facts

Well,if you have a deformity,I understand
But here’s the thing.
Hypothetically(cause I don’t know what you look like or what you want done)
Example:
Say you get a nose job. Then after the nose job,lip injections, after lip injections, breast implants, after breast implants, cheekbone implants and it just continues.
People do not realize this, but cosmetic surgery is addicting, not to all,but to many
If you truly have self esteem issues, then I say do whatever will help you feel better.
But what is most important is you said you like yourself for who you are in the inside, and many people who get plastic or cosmetic surgery don’t like who they are in the inside
But it isn’t a cure

Seems people are never happy with what the look like. It’s an illusion. Ever take a look at a movie star before makeup and after make up? try it some time
